Celebrating Mother’s Day in the Early Years

At Brighter Beginnings, we believe in celebrating the people who shape children’s lives with love, care, and dedication. Mother’s Day is a special time to honour not only mums, but all mother figures, grandmas, aunties, carers, and anyone who plays a nurturing role.

Our nurseries embrace this celebration with creativity, kindness, and lots of heartfelt moments from the children.

A Time to Say Thank You

Children may not always have the words to say thank you, but they show it in their own beautiful ways, through cuddles, artwork, or proud smiles when presenting something they’ve made.

Mother’s Day in the early years is less about perfect presents and more about connection, appreciation, and creativity.

What We’ve Been Doing in Nursery

Over the past few weeks, our nursery teams have been busy helping children prepare meaningful surprises for Mother’s Day. Depending on their age and interests, the activities have included:

  • Handmade Cards: Full of colourful scribbles, fingerprints, and sweet messages.
  • Craft Keepsakes: From handprint flowers to ‘reasons why I love you’ jars.
  • Role Play and Circle Time: Exploring what makes someone special and how we can show kindness to others.

We’ve also shared storybooks that highlight different types of families and talked about how every family is unique and important.

Supporting All Families

We know Mother’s Day can be emotional for some families, and our staff are always thoughtful in their approach. We take care to ensure all children feel included, and that celebrations reflect the diversity of our nursery communities.

Whether a child lives with their mum, dad, grandparent, foster carer, or guardian. We focus on the people who love and care for them every day.

Ideas for Home

Looking to continue the celebration at home? Here are a few ideas families might enjoy:

  • Create a Family Appreciation Wall: Stick up photos or drawings of all the people who help your child grow.
  • Cook Together: Make a simple treat like biscuits or fruit salad with your child as a shared activity.
  • Outdoor Adventures: Wrap up warm and go on a family walk to spot signs of spring.

From All of Us to All of You

To all the mums, stepmums, carers, grandmothers, and mother figures. Thank you. Your love and support play a huge role in your child’s development and happiness.

Happy Mother’s Day from everyone at Brighter Beginnings.
