Brighter Beginnings Early Years Training is a training organisation based in Manchester and Oldham. We offer apprenticeships, short-courses (online and face-to-face) as well as bespoke packages for CPD (continuous professional development). Set in a purpose-built training centre we offer a range of teaching and learning styles including distanced learning, one-to-one training as well as a full suite of personal and professional support both at the training centre and employers settings. Whether you are a young school-leaver or an adult looking for a new opportunity or an employer seeking to recruit apprentices, we are able to meet your needs.

Brighter Beginnings is an Early Years Training Provider specialising in apprenticeships since 2005. Our goal is to improve the quality of Early Years provision across Greater Manchester.
 
As specialists in the Early Years sector we know the challenges faced within a continuously changing and evolving workforce. Our team are all highly qualified and experienced graduate assessors or teachers qualified in early-years education. Our staff understand what its like to run a busy day care setting.

We can take the headache out of recruitment for busy employers before training your new apprentices. We conduct a training development needs-analysis with you and your company and then create a bespoke package for your existing team. Training is flexible, it can be; face-to-face delivery, tutored sessions, workshops, e-portfolios or via our online training portal... it's your choice!

How do we add value to our services?

  • We teach English and Maths Functional Skills up to level 2.
  • These skills are taught across our apprenticeships. We understand the need to learn, for example, how to write a report on a child for an external agency.

Alison Sheriston

Alison Sheriston

Head of Education and Training 

Qualifications and Experience:

I am the Head of Education at Brighter Beginnings Day Nurseries Ltd. I have a B’Ed hons degree and 14 years’ experience in primary education and have worked as the Education Lead in the government' Surestart program. I started at Brighter Beginnings initially as the Course Tutor before becoming the Deputy Training Manager and then the Training Manager. I am passionate about getting young people off to a good start in their chosen career and enabling them to gain the qualifications that they need.

Deputy Training Manager, Lead IQA and Learning Facilitator

Qualifications and Experience:

I have worked for Brighter Beginnings for 5 years. My Brighter Beginnings journey started back in January 2015 working at the Chadderton nursery as deputy manager. I found that alongside my role as deputy manager I helped to support the apprentices on their journey in becoming early year’s practitioners. I then decided to explore my profession further and from this I moved over to the training centre and embarked on my career as an assessor/learning facilitator.

Qualifications and Experience:

I am Emma Blackshaw and I have an MA hons in childcare. I am a Learning Facilitator for childcare qualifications up to level 5 and have a special interest in SENDCO and pastoral care. I have 8 years’ experience working in a primary school and 4 years’ experience working in social care supporting children with complex and additional needs.

Qualifications and Experience:

I am Alex Wilkinson and I have Early Years Teacher Status and work at Brighter Beginnings as a Course Tutor and a Learning Facilitator. I have a background in Early Years Teaching and a special interest in delivering phonics training and supporting the development of learners literacy skills.

Course Tutor and Learning Facilitator

Qualifications and Experience:

I’m Emma Turner I have a BA hons degree and am working towards my PGCE 14+ in Education and Training. I am the Lead Course Tutor and also a Learning Facilitator for the team leading/supervisor. I have a background in childcare and have been a nursery manager for 2yrs. I have a special interest in forest school and have a level 3 forest school qualification.

Training Manager and Lead IQA: Alison Sheriston

The Training Manager is Alison Sheriston who has worked at Brighter beginnings for 10years . She has a B’Ed Honours degree in Primary Education, an A1 Assessors Award and is a qualified IQA. She first worked with Brighter beginnings when she was the SureStart teacher at Charlestown Childrens Centre working closely with the staff to develop their Early Years practice. She has worked in Childcare and Eduaction since 2010. She started at Brighter Beginnings as an advisory teacher then became the course tutor for the apprentices progressing on to becoming the deputy training manager and finally the training manager.

Learning Facilitator and IQA: Rachael McMahon

Hi my name is Rachael and I have worked for Brighter Beginnings for 5 years. My Brighter Beginnings journey started back in January 2015 working at the Chadderton nursery as deputy manager. I found that alongside my role as deputy manager I helped to support the apprentices on their journey in becoming an early year’s practitioner. I then decided to explore this career further and from this I moved over to the training centre and embarked on my career as an assessor/learning facilitator. During my time at the training centre I have also qualified as an IQA and also oversee the recruitment of new apprentices. I have a BA Honours degree in Early Childhood studies, an A1 Assessors Award and an IQA Award Internal Quality Assurance.

Learning Facilitator: Emma Blackshaw

Emma Blackshaw has a BA Honors degree in Early Years as well as her A1 Assessors qualification. She has worked for Brighter Beginnings Early Years Training since 2018 and had 8 years experience working in primary education and 4 years experience working in the social care sector. She is currently the lead facilitator who is running a special needs qualification for nursery staff within the company. She has a range of learners studying between Level 2 and Level 5 apprenticeships. 

Learning Facilitator: Alex Wilkinson

Alex is a qualified early years teacher who also holds a degree in psychology. She has worked for the company for a number of years and also used to be employed with our nurseries as a teacher running the education and school readiness classroom. She is highly experienced and has also worked as a reception class teacher in a primary school. She also has worked in the early years quality team in Bury (Greater Manchester). Alex, as well as supporting our Level 3 apprentices also is responsible for teaching our English Functional Skills qualification.
